The District Gujrat of Pakistan is famous for its Naza Bazi ‘Tent Pegging’ Often referred to as equestrian skill-at-arms, the sport has a mounted rider riding at a full gallop across a timed course, on the flat using a lance to smite ground and elevated targets. Military cavaliers have practiced tent pegging for more than two-and-a-half millennia, and it is one of only ten disciplines officially recognised by the FEI, the global governing body for Olympic and international equestrianism.Gujrat Race Club has been working with a number of tent pegging clubs to encourage them to train riders for flat Thoroughbred Racing. The Club is small by the standards of Lahore and Karachi and holds races on open ground.
Registration with Jockey Club of Pakistan
Gujrat Race Club & Stud has been registered with the Jockey Club of Pakistan, the registration number is 97/2012 . The Secretary of the Jockey Club of Pakistan, Brig. Muhammad Akram Khan (Retd.) Congratulated Mr Mohammed Ahsan GRCS Chairman, on the successful registration. The brand mark for GRCS will be MA. The letter “MA” is to be branded on the right shoulder of the horse with last two figures of the year of foaling underneath the serial number of the year on right thigh.
Gujrat Race Club – Horse Information
On a sunny January morning horses are being exercised. People enjoy the walk , trot ,canter and the gallop of the horses. Care of the horses is paramount to the success of the horses at a race.The Work Riders and Grooms wash the horses daily, its helps them build a relationship with the horses.In December the first lot of horses arrived at Gujrat Race Club.
Gujrat Race Club Importing Race Horses from the UK
Gujrat Race Club imported horses from the heart of world racing industry Newmarket, UK. Two in foal mares were bought at the Tattersall’s sales and an excellent Darshan stallion was a gift from HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance from his Shadwell Stud at Thetford, Norfolk, UK. He had bought it for £335 000.00 it had won prize money in excess of £40 000.00.

Shabir worked at Lahore Race Club and also at Rawalpindi Race Club as a Work Rider and was identified as a very good Jockey, Staff at Gujrat Race Club helped to develop him and assisted him to obtain employment with Newmarket Trainer Gerard Butler. Here Shabir is preparing to gallop his horses on the Newmarket Heath Gallops.
Ahmed Shah was a very successful Jockey at Lahore Race Club. We wanted to develop his skill and approach Gujrat Race Club’s UK partners Kings UK Group, to source employment for him in the UK where he could lift his skill to a much higher level. Kings UK helped him to obtain employment with Mark Tompkins but soon his talent was spotted by William Knight for whom he currently work for.
Wasim lived two miles from Gujrat Race Club, at Rakdand, his family owned a horse which he used to ride as a young child. However, he was more interested in the breeding of horses. Gujrat Race Club assisted him to first secure employment at Lahore Race Club, to ensure his equine skill were of an international standard. He is permanently employed for Genesis Green Stud, Newmarket as a Stud Groom.
